My Own Great Divide (Duggan)
There’s a fire in the forest burning on the divide
And my old conflagration is smoldering inside
Millions of acres consumed in the blaze
And recovery looms in the haze
Mountains fold over each other and lean
In every direction pushing out streams
That flow to the ocean, relentlessly clear
But the clarity all disappears
And I’ve spent half my life running round in small circles
Spiraling upward, tumbling down
Too much introspection, no sense of direction
Still standing astride my own great divide
High meadow a dance in the clouds
The rolling of the hemispheres rumbling loud
I looked to the heavens and I prayed for a sign
Saw only random design
And I still couldn’t make up my mind
Woman, oh woman, woman so near
Help me discover the place of my fear
And somehow together we will
Throw agony off of this hill
And I’ve spent half my life running round in small circles
Spiraling upward, and tumbling down
Too much introspection, no sense of direction
Still standing astride my own great divide
Still standing astride my own great divide
